General Hospital's Cameron Mathison and Wife Vanessa Mathison Announce Split After 22 Years of Marriage (2024)

In a joint statement on Wednesday on both Cameron Mathison (Drew, GH) and Vanessa Mathison’s Instagram accounts, the couple have revealed that they are parting ways after 22 years of marriage.

The General Hospital star, where he plays Drew Quartermaine, also welcomed Vanessa to Port Charles for a guest stint for three episodes back in 2022. On the ABC soap opera, Vanessa played an executive coach named Mia.

Cameron and Vanessa met back in 1998 while both modeling in New York City. Later, they tied the knot in 2002 and have two children together, Lucas, 21, and Leila, 18.

The heartbreaking statement read, in part:”After 22 years of marriage, we have made the difficult decision to part ways. We enter this new chapter with deep love, kindness, and respect for each other. We hold gratitude in our hearts for the wonderful years we shared together.”

The two also shared that Lucas and Leila’s well-being during the end of their union was of utmost importance to both of them: “Our children have been and will continue to be our highest priority, and we will forever share in our devotion and love for them. We remain friends, and both wish the best for one another. We sincerely appreciate your respect for our family’s privacy during this transition.”

As soap fans know, Cameron is extremely busy appearing in multiple projects including hosting Game Show Network’s Beat the Bridge, his series regular role on GH, and as one of the leads in Great American Media content and movie after securing a multi-year deal.

While it appears there was no trouble from those on the outside looking in on their over two decade marriage, Mathison told ET in 2022, “We’ve been married 20 years coming up this summer, and it hasn’t all been smooth, for sure. We went through rocky times the first five years.”

The split comes as the five-year anniversary of Cameron’s kidney cancer diagnosis nears in September, where as of now he is cancer-free.

On Wednesday, Daytime Emmy-winner, Rick Hearst revealed some first-look photos of him suited up to reprise his role as General Hospital’s Ric Lansing.From the looks of it, Ric is already in lawyer-mode.

Along with his announcement on Instagram, that he was back on set, Hearst captioned the photo and shared:”This guy’s skin again, pretty easily. Of course, The suit helps.” Hearst also added some key hashtags that included: #daddysback #lawyeredup, plus he also gave a shout-out to designer Michael Kors for the outfit.

As previously reported, Hearst will be on your screens beginning with the August 19th episode and according to Rick, his GH alter-ego is coming back to Port Charles “to take care of his daughter (Molly Lansing-Davis) and anything that entails.” Rick last run on GH as Ric was from 2014-2016.

Following his posting, several of his current and former GH castmates shared their excitement that Rick is back at the ABC daytime drama series taping all-new episodes, including: Kin Shriner (Scott), who wrote, “Yes, Rick once in costume half the work,” and Kathleen Gati (Obrecht) who noted “Looking good!”

In addition, many GH fans recall the storyline where Ric held Carly hostage in the panic room in the house he shared with Elizabeth. That Carly was played by Tamara Braun, who also shared on Rick’s return,“Lookin’ good, Rick! Xoxo.”

Now the question becomes; when Ric returns to Port Charles will he be fighting a baby battle between Molly and Kristina (Kate Mansi)? Will he find himself on one side or the other in a legal case if his half-brother, Sonny Corin(Maurice Benard) faces potential murder or assault charges? Stay tuned.

There is finally some intel on the highly anticipated and highly guarded upcoming new daytime soap opera, The Gates.

Former General Hospital head writer, Bob Guza Jr., and former All My Children EP, Julie Hanan Carruthers are reportedly joining Michele Val Jean as executive producers of the show as first revealed by Soap Hub.

While Michele Val Jean is The Gates showrunner and creator, she is also joined by previously named executive producers, Sheila Duckworth, Kimberly Doebereiner, Leon T. Russell and Derrick Johnson.The Gates is set to premiere in January of 2025 on CBS. At the epicenter of the story is a wealthy Black family who live in an upscale gated community.

Daytime soap fans know Guza as the longtime head writer for General Hospital spanning 15 years by himself or as a co head-scribe. He began his Port Charles journey in March of 1996 and became head writer for the first time from December 1997 to December 2000.

Eventually, Bob returned to the series in June of 20o2 along with Chuck Pratt Jr. During an almost four-year run, the duo crafted the lives of the citizens of Port Charles. Chuck and Bob steered GH’s storylines until March 2006, when Guza became the sole head writer, once again.

In 2007, Bob’s wife, the late Meg Bennett, would co-write GH alongside of him. Then, in 2008, Guza left and returned to his head writing duties solo following the conclusion of the writer’s strike. He remained with the General Hospital till 2011. Guza has won three Daytime Emmys for writing General Hospital, one for his work as a script writer on Santa Barbara and four as a consulting producer for GH.

As for Julie Carruthers, she began her soap career in various production jobs on Santa Barbara from 1984-1990. In 1994, Julie came to GH and worked her way up to senior supervising producer. She exited to become the executive producer of the now defunct, Port Charles.

After the half-hour GH spinoff was canceled in 2003, she was named the EP for All My Children, and was with your favorites from Pine Valley until its conclusion in September of 2011. Julie has been nominated for five Daytime Emmys throughout her career.

John “Jagger” Cates (Adam J. Harrington) may have the ammo he finally needs to bring Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) down, thanks to a tip from Ava Jerome (Maura West), or does he? On the Monday July 29th episode of General Hospital, it becomes very apparent to all, just how low Agent Cates will stoop in his vendetta against Sonny.

Already, Carly (Laura Wright), who is in police custody and is about to go before a judge on RICO violations, and Jason (Steve Burton), who got the evidence Cates demanded on Pikeman to set him free, but was lied to and almost sent out of Port Charles for good again know that this FBI agent means serious business and wants to take down Sonny by any means possible.

In story, Cates arrives at Ava’s room at the Metro Court. He asks her if he can park his suitcases there for a bit as he tells Ava he needs to change and get to the courthouse. Cates goes off on Sonny. Then Ava tells him her long held secret after they discuss how volatile Sonny can be.

Knowing exactly what she is doing, Ava swears she found this out by pure accident. However, Sonny is very under-medicated. Because his behavior was so volatile at times while she was living with him, she decided to have one of his two medications tested, and it came back as the wrong dosage.

Cates asks if she ever told Sonny and she admits she didn’t. Cates thanks her for the useful information that he can use if Sonny were to go for his throat. Ava pretends that never crossed her mind, but it could help her if Sonny loses his cool, making him look like an unfit parent in her custody battle for Avery.

Sonny arrives to the courthouse. Michael (Chad Duell) tells him that Carly asked him to meet him here. Then, Sonny comes upon Cates arguing with Molly (Kristen Vaganos) who was there from the District Attorney’s office. Cates wants all the files on Sonny’s criminal activities. She says that would take a lot of time to do that. Molly admits that Sonny is her uncle and he goes in on her when he spots Sonny out of the corner of his eye. At that point, Cates begins taunting Molly and asked if Corinthos has tried to get her to strip or dance for him (a la the late Karen Wexler, Jagger’s ex).

Next, Sonny comes upon the scene and Cates continues to provoke him! He screams, “I got your boy Jason and your girl Carly because you threw them away just like you threw away Karen and Stone!” Sonny lunges at Cates, but Michael stops his father and tells him that Cates isn’t worth it.

However, Cates doesn’t stop there, he tells him that Jason will talk to protect Carly …. and Sonny is going down. He adds, “I will be sitting right beside you listing off all the despicable, disgusting, criminal things you ever did you’ve ever done you son of a bitch!” As Sonny and Cates are about to go at it even further … we fade to black.
