Notes 2: Last update – Jan 2024.

Since most of us shop with a budget in mind, these are the best electric skateboards by price category. Distilling each category down to the best 3-4 electric skateboards has always been a VERY difficult and time-consuming task for me, as there are sometimes more than dozens of boards that are almost as good as each other in the same price range. But this is how I go about it –

I try to consider the below factors when making recommendations:

  • Actual Price (duh) – I ignore ‘fake retail price’ and compare boards in their price after ‘discounts’
  • Performance and specs (Range, Topspeed, etc)
  • Ride feel
  • Brand quality – Post-sale service & build quality.

I like to think that I’ve considered all viable products (or at least most of them), and all the best options have made it onto this recommendation list.

  5. Final Words:

In the end, what’s right for you often comes down to personal preference, so I tried to include a few options for each price segment – each of them better than the others in a certain aspect. Because of that, the numbering on this list is not necessarily a ranking of the boards themselves or implying that one board is better than the others (unless explicitly stated, sometimes one board is just better at everything.).

For those who are new to ESHQ, we’ve been reviewing electric skateboards since 2017. Just look around; I’m sure there is enough proof that we are pretty well-informed.

But that’s enough introduction. Let’s get started.

Best Electric Skateboard under $500

We’ve reviewed countless boards under $500, and there are many options in the market right now.
We will boil all options down to just the top 5 for simplicity’s sake.

Best Budget Electric Longboard (under $500)

1. Acedeck Stella S3 – $499 (wtf specs, great rides too) [Discontinueing, only available in Australia]

Best Electric Skateboards for Every Price Point! (Budget to Premium) (1)

Torque, battery & power – way ahead of the competition

  • Price: $499
  • Battery: 374wh, 132sp Samsung 40T battery
  • Range: 22 miles/ 35km
  • Top speed: 28mph /45kmh
  • Motors: 2 x 1500W belt motors
  • ESC: 50A Hobbywing ESC 3.0
  • Deck profile: mild flex with aggressive concave
  • Board Weight:20.1 lbs / 9.5kg

Read our full review of the Acedeck Stella S3 here

Acedeck is not playing around here, putting a 13s2p battery in a $499 dual belt-driven board. As if that’s not good enough, they use Samsung 40T cells! I’d expect the board to sell for at least $699 just for the battery it uses.

The Stella S3 not only uses belt motors but also big ones. These are dual 1500W 6355 motors, even bigger than Wowgo 3E’s dual 650W 5055.

With this setup, the Stella S3 is powerful, but its highlight would actually be its torque. It has a 1:2.7 gear ratio, giving the board a quote-unquote “normal” 28mph or 45 kph top speed despite the big motors and 13s battery. The board is way above its class when it comes to torque, just a few steps behind Meepo Voyager X, which is a $799 board that was known for its torque and power.

And it’s not a one-trick pony either. Speed control? It used the tried and true Hobbywing ESC, perfectly smooth and intuitive speed control, but dialed to be a bit punchier than typical Hobbywing ESC. Deck? It has mild flex and comfortable wide concave. Trucks? They are good, and more stable than responsive.

Turns out, Acedeck was selling the Stella S3 at a loss here to promote its brand name and clear the stock, which explained why the Stella S3 is such an unbelievable deal at $499. The only stock left is in Australia, so grab it if you can.

2. Wowgo 3E – $449 (Belt-drive for less than $500!)

Best Electric Skateboards for Every Price Point! (Budget to Premium) (2)
Best Electric Skateboards for Every Price Point! (Budget to Premium) (3)
  • Price: $449
  • Battery: 216wh, 12s2p – top tier amongst affordable boards
  • Range: 13miles/ 20km – average for the price
  • Top speed: 28mph/ 45kmh –Top tier
  • Motors: 2 x 650W (belt) top tier
  • ESC: 12s Hobbywing ESC with smart-turn-on
  • Deck profile: Flexible Deck, Good concave

Last year, I placed the Wowgo 3E as the second-best affordable electric skateboard behind Exway Flex. It’s close, but we slightly prefer Exway Flex for its higher-quality forged trucks. Then, Exway decided that the Exway Flex was indeed too good to be selling at $499 (now $549), abdicating the throne of the best affordable electric longboard to Wowgo 3E.

Both boards are fun boards to ride, featuring flexible composite decks made of bamboo and fiberglass.

Equipped with a 12s2p 216wh battery and driven by dual 650W 5055 belt motors, the Wowgo 3E claims the title of the most powerful board under $500, reaching speeds of up to 28mph (45kmh). Its power and torque are right up there with some $700 boards.

The combination of its flexible deck, responsive trucks, and smooth 12s Hobbywing ESC gives the Wowgo 3E a silky-smooth ride that’s a joy to carve on and the best riding experience you can find for under $500.

Wowgo 3E’s only drawback is its limited range. Belt systems, being less energy efficient, mean that while the 216wh battery is adequately sized, the board only manages a 13-mile distance on a full charge.

With all that said, unless you really hate belt maintenance or you really need more than 13 miles/ 20km out of a single charge, Wowgo 3E should be your best bet under $500.

Compared to our top pick Acedeck Stella S3: Wowgo 3E is a more relaxed board with a more flexible deck, more responsive trucks, and more gentle speed control; the Acedeck Stella S3 has more battery, more torque, and more thrill. We love both boards, but Stella S3 gets your nod as number one, as we can’t argue with 13s2p with Samsung 40T cells. It’s also probably not available anymore, so Wowgo 3E is essentially the best board under $500 right now.

3. Wowgo 2s Max – $399 (Good, and lowest price possible)

Best Electric Skateboards for Every Price Point! (Budget to Premium) (4)
Best Electric Skateboards for Every Price Point! (Budget to Premium) (5)

Wowgo 2s Max is the most well-rounded and the safest bet under $500.

  • Price: $399
  • Battery: 216wh, 12s2p – top tier amongst $400
  • Range: 14.3miles/ 23km – top tier
  • Top speed: 28mph/ 45kmh –Above average
  • Motors: 2 x 550W (hub) top tier
  • ESC: 12s Hobbywing ESC with smart-turn on
  • Deck profile: Stiff, Subtle concave

Read our full review on Wowgo 2s Max

If you are looking for a board that’s comfortable and intuitive to ride, Wowgo 2s Max is the one for you. When it comes to specs, Wowgo 2s Max is top tier amongst entry-level electric skateboards, especially after receiving a price cut in 2023 (From $469 -> $399).

The trucks are of good quality and geared toward stability, and the speed control is amazingly smooth and intuitive thanks to the 12s Hobbywing ESC (Electronic Speed Controller).

While we may be able to find some obscure Chinese brand that has better specs (on paper) than the Wowgo 2s Max, what put this board at the top of our list is in the details – Wowgo 2s Max is amongst if not THE most polished board under $500 (and it’s now under $400!). From the foam grip tape to the graphic underneath the board to better-looking remotes, nothing from the looks will give away the affordable price tag.

Oh, and Wowgo has an above-average track record in after-sale service, too.

Wowgo 2s Max was the most popular purchase amongst our viewers for 2022. With its 2024 price cut, we expect it will continue to be the most popular board in the near future.

4. Tynee Ultra SL – $399 (Best value for most people)

Best Electric Skateboards for Every Price Point! (Budget to Premium) (6)

All you need for just $400

  • Price: $399
  • Battery: 259wh, 12s2p
  • Range: 20 miles / 32km
  • Top speed: 28mph / 45kmh –Above average
  • Motors: 2 x 550W (hub) top tier
  • ESC: 12s Hobbywing ESC with smart-turn on
  • Deck profile: Flexible, wide concave

Read our full review on Tynee Ultra SL Hub

For the last 2 years or so, we have been recommending Wowgo 2s Max as the best affordable electric longboard. Today, Tynee Ultra SL takes over that spot.

Tynee Ultra SL is a simple board that does two things well. 1, it has better specs than everyone else; 2, it is as good a ride as any other hub-driven board below $500.

When it comes to specs, 12s2p battery is a rare find for under $500, much less at only $400. If you need more range than what the Wowgo 3E 13miles (20km) provides, then Tynee Ultra SL, with its slightly bigger battery and more energy-efficient hub drive, could get you a bit further.

Tynee Ultra SL also has a top speed as good as any other board at this price – 28mph (45kmh).

On the ride, feel the side of the thing, Tynee Ultra SL checked all the boxes.

Hobbywing ESC with a customizable ride profile gives you perfectly smooth speed control.

A flexible deck with good concave + responsive trucks makes carving fun. The truck was also stable enough to make riding at top speed a comfortable ordeal.

Any downside? Yes, road vibrations are the nemesis of every hub electric skateboard, and Tynee Ultra SL is not an exception here. You’d hate to ride the Tynee Ultra SL on rough roads.

All in all, if you want a simple board that doesn’t need belt changes, then you’d want a hub-driven board. At the moment, the best affordable hub-driven board is Tynee Ultra SL.

5. Meepo Super V3s – $399 (Most thrill, great built quality)

Best Electric Skateboards for Every Price Point! (Budget to Premium) (7)

Meepo V3S (Meepo Super) is the most thrilling among budget electric skateboards.

  • Price: $399
  • Battery: 216wh, 10s2p (21700 cells)- best amongst affordable boards
  • Range: 17 miles/ 27km – best
  • Top speed: 29mph /47kmh – best
  • Motors: 2 x 540W (hub) great
  • ESC: LingYi with push to start
  • Deck profile: Flexible deck, deep concave.

Read our full review of Meepo Super V3S

Meepo may not be the best affordable electric skateboard right now (well, this is up for debate), but it is still the most popular.

Meepo Super is an incredibly well-spec-ed board for $399, but it has a cult-like following for its incredibly aggressive ride profile. Using Ling Yi ESC, it has a Pro speed mode that gives you a super punchy acceleration that enthusiasts love; while still capable of smooth and gentle speed profiles with its lower speed modes.

To double down on the aggressive theme, this $399 Meepo Super also has an over-the-top top speed, maxing out at 29mph (47kmh).

Meepo Super also has one of my favorite decks in this price category. A maple deck, with a mild flex and a deep concave. The trucks are good too, well balanced between stability and responsiveness.

In short, if it’s the thrill you’re after, the Meepo Super would be your top pick. Otherwise, it is still a great board at an unreasonably low price. You could do much worse for $399.

6. Maxfind Max 5 Pro -$449 (Quality Parts at Affordable Price)

Best Electric Skateboards for Every Price Point! (Budget to Premium) (8)

Use high-quality parts while keeping a low price

  • Price: $449
  • Battery: 158.4wh, 10s2p (Samsung cell) – above average amongst affordable boards
  • Range: 15 miles/ 25km – above average
  • Top speed: 24mph /40kmh – average
  • Motors: 2 x 650W (hub) above average
  • ESC: Hobbywing ESC with Smart Turn on
  • Deck profile: Composite with fiberglass. Stiff, unibody design, mild concave.
  • Board Weight:17 lbs / 7.8kg

Read our full review on Maxfind Max 5 Pro

The Maxfind Max 5 Pro may not be my favorite board, but it earns its spot for having high-quality parts.

What I don’t like about it? It has a quirky deck. This is a stiff deck made from composite fiberglass. While it’s made from high-quality materials, it is a bit narrow and not the most comfortable for riding.

However, despite its deck, the Max 5 Pro delivers a well-rounded riding experience. With its perfectly smooth control, thanks to the Hobbywing ESC and a stable truck, it is a comfortable ride.

It’s also competitively specced with a 158.4wh battery, a 15-mile (25km) range, and a 24mph (40kmh) top speed. While these aren’t extraordinary, they align with what’s expected at a $449 price point.

What sets the Maxfind Max 5 Pro apart, however, is the quality of its components. Notably, it uses CNC-forged trucks, which is quite a big deal. Most electric skateboards under $1000 feature die-cast trucks, which are less durable and more susceptible to breaking in crashes. On top of that, the Max 5 Pro uses Samsung cells for its battery pack and boasts an IPX5 waterproof rating.

If you’re searching for an affordable board with the best quality parts, Maxfind Max 5 Pro is very likely your best bet.

Best Electric Shortboards (ordered by increasing price)

1. Tynee Mini 3 SL – $359-$399 (Best affordable)

Best Electric Skateboards for Every Price Point! (Budget to Premium) (9)
Best Electric Skateboards for Every Price Point! (Budget to Premium) (10)

The overall best electric shortboard

    • $399.00 (281Wh)
  • Battery:
    • 10s3p, 6Ah, 216Wh
    • 10s3p 7.8Ah 281Wh

  • ESC: Hobbywing ESC with smart turn on
  • Deck profile: slight concave with kick tail
  • Board Weight:18.5 lb / 8.4 kg

Read our full review on Tynee Mini 3 SL (coming soon)

If you want a decent electric shortboard for the absolute lowest price possible, the Tynee Mini 3 SL is it.

Starting only at $359, you get a shortboard with decent pair of 550W motors and a above-expectation 10s3p battery (216wh). For context, boards with a $400 price tag usually go with 10s2p battery, and usually do 26mph(40kmh) max, so the Tynee Mini 3 SL is doing better than average in both aspect here.

On the ride department, the board didn’t dissapoint either. The deck is decent, nice concave, comfortable. The trucks (Tynee PE) are pretty good. They are well balanced, but slightly more stable than responsive.

Going with Hobbywing ESC means the board also has perfect smooth speed control, making this a very beginner friendly board too.

The only downside of this board would probably be the fact that it is a hub motor short boards, meaning, road vibration can be quite uncomfortable when you are riding on rough pavements.

All in all, the Tynee Mini 3 SL is a simple board that does everything an electric shortboard should do, and I’d recommend anybody who are shopping on a tight budget to first consider this board.

(Optimum choice)

Best Electric Skateboards for Every Price Point! (Budget to Premium) (11)

  • Motors: 2 x 504W (belt)/ (hub) top tier

Refined, nimble ride with lots of nice features.

Read our full review of Exway Wave

As is often the case, Exway Wave has pedestrian specs if put aside its competitors in this price category. However, I still think it is the most optimum short-board to get for what it offers. Hear me out:

  1. Belt-driven shortboards are preferable for most people, as they conduct less road vibration. Road vibration tends to be worse for shortboards as you will be standing right above the trucks most of the time, and it tends to pair with smaller wheel sizes. AND, Exway Wave-Riot at $559 is still amongst the lowest-priced belt-driven electric shortboards.
  2. It is a very polished ride. Thanks to the very premium part it uses, the board is an absolute joy to ride. The deck has a very nice dish concave that is very comfortable and helps with board control, and the famed Trist trucks it uses are forged trucks – they are veeeery good and you don’t usually get forged trucks from boards under $600.
  3. It has lots of useful features. Since most of us get shortboards for their portability, hot-swappable batteries are one of the most useful features for shortboards. You get to carry extra batteries in your backpack if you need the range, and when you don’t need to go far, not having a giant battery bolted to your board keeps the board lighter. On top of that, the boards have IP55 Waterproofing, integrated LED lights, a mobile app, and allow switching between hub and belt drive and have a 99wh travel battery available.

Hence, if you are looking for a well-rounded electric shortboard, I’d recommend Exway Wave-Riot as the optimum choice. Unless, of course, you are looking to spend more for something over-the-top (which we will have next).

3. Tyneeboard Mini 3 Pro – $659 (Incredibly powerful)

Best Electric Skateboards for Every Price Point! (Budget to Premium) (12)

It’s stupidly powerful, which is great.

  • Price: $659
  • Battery: 393wh, 13s2p – competitive for the price
  • Range: 26 miles/ 42km – average
  • Top speed: 32mph /52kmh –top tier
  • Motors: 2 x 2775W (belt) top tier
  • ESC: Hobbywing ESC with smart power on
  • Deck profile: Dish-like concave with short kicktail

Read our full review on Tyneeboard Mini 3 Pro

While Tynee had a tiny bit of a struggle overcoming the vice grip Wowgo and Meepo had on the longboard category and resorting to price war to stand out, it always has good success when it comes to its shortboards.

Before it got discontinued, the original Tynee Mini Belt was one of our favorites. In 2023, it released the Tynee Mini 3 Pro, which immediately stood out for its over-the-top power.

Nobody ever needs a pair of 2775W belt motors capable of going 32mph(52kmh) on a 30″ deck with a kicktail. But do people want it? Turns out, they do.

It is incredibly thrilling to have the torque blast off from a standstill.

It is not to say the board ain’t practical. 105mm hydrowheels get you through most terrain a shortboard couldn’t go, and the board is still perfectly well rounded in other aspects – stabile, agile, well built, and have useful features (integrated brake lights, allow speed profile customization through remote).

If you are in the electric skateboarding niche for the thrills, Tynee Mini 3 Pro is THE board to get in the shortboard category. Trust me bro.

Best Mid-tier Electric Longboard (under $1000 – ordered by price)

There was a time when no vendor would sell an eskate at this price range, as nobody would dare to dish out this much money for an unknown brand, and no premium brand would care to take a profit cut to sell a product at this price.

This changed in 2019.

As Chinese brands proved themselves reliable, those looking for an upgrade were happy to pay a slightly higher price to Meepo, Backfire, Wowgo, Ownboard, and Exway for something better.

The same trend continues to be true in 2024. Once a no-man land, the mid-tier segment has flourished with choices, most of which are good. And for those who want a polished ride but don’t want to break the bank, the best electric skateboards would fall within this price segment.

1. Wowgo Pioneer X4 – $599 (Better belt-driven)

Best Electric Skateboards for Every Price Point! (Budget to Premium) (13)

A better belt-driven electric longboard

  • Price: $549
  • Battery: 345wh, 12s2p – Fair for the price
  • Range: 21 miles/ 33km – fair
  • Top speed: 28/ 45kmh – fair
  • Motors: 2 x 700W (belt)Fair!
  • ESC: 12s Hobbywing ESC
  • Deck:Canadian maple + bamboo, mild flex, mild concave

Read our full review of Wowgo Pioneer X4

Wowgo Pioneer X4 was the upgraded version of the Wowgo 3E, and the true successor of the wildly popular Wowgo 3X. These boards went with the same design formula: Flexible deck + Belt drive. The Pioneer X4, however, gets an upgraded battery (using Samsung 40T here), a pair of bigger 700W motors, and a higher-quality deck.

When the Pioneer X4 was just released, it was a good board for $699, but a similar-priced but better-polished Exway Flex ER had an edge over it. But now, the Wowgo Pioneer X4 has been slashed to $549, while the Exway Flex ER gets a price bump, and the Wowgo Pioneer X4 has become the better pick between the two.

Simply put, if you want a belt board that is super smooth to ride, you should first consider Wowgo 3E.
If you want more power and more range, then the next step up would be the Wowgo Pioneer X4.

You can spend a lot more than $549 on a street-wheel eskate, but going beyond this you will start to see a diminishing return on your bucks.

2. Meepo Flow – $729 (Best cruiser board)

Best Electric Skateboards for Every Price Point! (Budget to Premium) (14)

Most enjoyable board to cruise around.

  • Price: $729
  • Battery: 362wh, 12s2p – competitive for the price
  • Range: 24 miles/ 38km – competitive
  • Top speed: 32mph/ 52kmh – great
  • Motors: 2 x 2519W (belt)great
  • ESC: 12s Hobbywing ESC
  • Deck:Stiff bamboo and fiberglass glass deck, wide concave

Read our full review of Meepo Flow

Meepo Flow is my favorite board to come out of 2023, for we haven’t seen many good cruiser boards prior to Flow.

With a slightly shorter 35″ deck with kick tails and double kingpin trucks, Meepo Flow is more fun than your typical longboard to cruise around in. A shorter wheelbase and going double kingpin trucks let you turn really tight turns, and for even tighter turns, there is the kick tail for kick turns.

I also love the use of the 105mm soft wheels. These are OEM manufacturers of Boosted 105s, and they are not only super soft and comfortable but also practical for commute. Bigger wheels mean you can ride over sticks and stones and make rougher roads less torturous and dangerous.

In my opinion, Meepo Flow is the best electric cruiser board in the market right now, and it’s even better than the $999 Evolve Stoke, which it stole its looks from. Not just better in value, but straight up better (cheaper, bigger battery, smoother speed control, stronger in power).

Man, I love this board.

Check out Meepo Flow product page (click).

Note:
Better than Meepo Envy (NLS 3)($649), in my opinion. Meepo Envy and Meepo Flow have the same electronics, but Flow’s cruiser deck is more fun. Flow’s 105s wheels and double kingpin also gave the board a clearer identity – smooth ride and fun for carving. Meepo Envy (NLS 3) has a typical, but very good flexible 40″ deck though.
Better than Exway Flex ER ($749). Unless you really like a flexible 40″ deck, then Exway Flex ER is the more prestine built (but less powerful) option than the Meepo Envy and Meepo Flow.
Better than Backfire Zealot S2 ($749). Zealot S2 has that pretty lights, but the Meepo Flow has more substance in ride quality.

3. Propel Pivot S – $799 (Powerful Carbon fiber Board)

Best Electric Skateboards for Every Price Point! (Budget to Premium) (15)

Super powerful and most affordable carbon fiber board

  • Price: $799
  • Battery: 518wh, 12s3p – Fair for the price
  • Range: 27 miles/ 44km – fair

Sometimes, a premium brand offers one of its products for an unreasonably low price to introduce itself to new customers. That is probably what Propel is doing with the Pivot S.

Because – you don’t usually get a board with a carbon fiber deck for $799, much less one that still packs great specs like the Pivot S does. 12s3p that can go 27 miles on a single charge is great, but the best quality of the Propel Pivot S is the power on this thing. It is a super-duper aggressive and powerful board that will make adrenaline junkies amongst you very happy. I used to recommend Meepo Voyager X as the most aggressive board at $700-800. Now, Propel Pivot S is the best board for that category.

Propel Pivot S is also a 2-in-1 board, meaning you can swap to all-terrain wheels and go off-road with it. $999 for the 2-in-1 all-terrain Propel Pivot S is still a good buy that I can stand behind, but it’s not as exciting as the $799 for Pivot S street, as you will be flooded with many great choices if you are prepared to spend more than $1000 on a 2-in-1.

If you love powerful carbon fiber decks, the Propel Pivot S at $799 is hands down giving you the best value.

Note:
More powerful than Meepo Voyager X, consider Voyager X if you prefer a flexible deck over a carbon fiber deck.

4. Tynee Explorer– $949 (Best bang for the buck for All Terrain)

Best Electric Skateboards for Every Price Point! (Budget to Premium) (16)

Well-polished and well-specced 2-in-1.

  • Price: $949
  • Battery: 725.8wh, 12s4p – best for the price
  • Range: 31 miles/ 50km – best
  • Top speed: 31mph/ 50kmh – average
  • Motors: 2 x 3500W (belt) average
  • ESC: 12s Hobbywing ESC
  • Deck: Flexible bamboo and fiberglass; double-drop and subtle wide concave

Read our full review of Tynee Explorer

Tynee Explorer came out in 2022 with a $1199 price tag. It’s now $949. After the price cut, this board, with its 12s4p, 725.8wh, becomes the all-terrain electric skateboard with the best value right now.

I nicknamed Tynee Explorer “Tynee Vacation” cause the board wasn’t about thrill and adrenaline and was more about a safe, comfortable, relaxing ride.

Its flexible deck, stable double kingpin trucks, and smooth speed control from Hobbywing ESC make it a board that you can ride with your brain turned off. The motors weren’t thrilling or powerful – strong enough to drive the big wheels uphill, but maybe not for off-road hiking trails. Its also not particularly torquey, so you may not want to bet on it for drag races.

What Tynee Explorer gives you is a very chill ride, rolling through whatever obstacle you have on the road, and a big battery to keep you on the road for a very, very long time.

Check out Tynee Explorer product page (click).

Note: It’s a better choice than Meepo City Rider 3 ($899) for its bigger battery (12s4p vs 12s3p). Both boards have similar ride profiles.

5. Exway Flex Pro – $949 (Most polished)

Best Electric Skateboards for Every Price Point! (Budget to Premium) (17)

Highly polished, smooth-riding electric longboard

  • Price: $949
  • Battery: 345wh, 12s2p – average for the price
  • Range: 25 miles/ 40km – average
  • Top speed: 31mph/ 50kmh – average
  • Motors: 2 x 1270W (belt) average
  • ESC: 12s Hobbywing ESC
  • Deck: Very flexible deck (Composite; bamboo, maple, and fiberglass), aggressive concave

Read our full review of Exway Flex Pro

If you want the best experience on an electric skateboard and are not a numbers person, then Exway Flex Pro may be your pick. Exway Flex Pro might not have the best specs for the price (Exway and Evolve never do), but it manages to make this list for giving us an amazing ride.

It is the best electric skateboard on this list for carving, thanks to the responsive Trist trucks (forged trucks) and very high-quality flexible deck.

It is not the most powerful board for the price, but it is powerful enough to be fun. It doesn’t really have the best range for the price, but it has enough stamina for most riders.

Despite getting crushed by the boards of the same price categories when it comes to specs, Exway Flex Pro remains a very popular board, and that is all the proof I can give you about its refined riding experience.

6. Backfire Zealot – $1,099 (Powerful, premium, looks really good)

Best Electric Skateboards for Every Price Point! (Budget to Premium) (18)

The best representative of premium electric skateboards right now

  • Price: $1,099
  • Battery: 504wh, 14s2p – average for the price
  • Range: 34 miles/ 55km – average
  • Top speed: 31mph/ 50kmh – average
  • Motors: 2 x 1500W (belt) great
  • ESC: 12s Hobbywing ESC
  • Deck: Composite Deck: Fiberglass + Maple. Stiff, minimal concave

Read our full review of Backfire Zealot X

I know $1,099 isn’t exactly below $1,000, but I’ve been in this field long enough to know that if you give it a few months, it will eventually be $1000. Plus, you can use our discount code “ESKATEHQ” to get you close to $1000.

Jokes aside, the reason I think Backfire Zealot X is better classed under this section is that it compared better to the rest of the electric longboard under $1000, for it is still a ‘proto-typical electric longboard with street wheel.’ When going over $1000, we will be mostly looking at 2-in-1 or AT boards.

Backfire Zealot X is a memorable board for its look. The icy blue lights around the deck look really stunning. It also has a very cool-looking Halo remote to drive home the point that this is a premium product.

And, besides the looks, the riding experience the Zealot X gave is amazing too, as a $1000 board should be.

The main highlight would be its incredible power and torque afforded by 14s battery and 2 x 1500W belt motors. The forged truck Backfire uses on this is also really good, responsive yet stable.

Although the Backfire Zealot X 14s2p battery configuration didn’t allow an extraordinary range, and we always believe its deck can use more concave, we still would point to the Zealot X as the gold standard of what a premium electric skateboard is because it just rides so good (and so pretty!).

Best Premium Electric Skateboard/ AT boards (over $1000)

Let’s face it: most of the electric skateboards above $1000 are very good. They all have beefy specs, polished built, and good post-sale services. Many of them are 2-in-1 or dedicated All-Terrain setup.

However, some of the boards are more popular than the rest for a reason, and these are the top choices that deserve your first consideration.

1. Evolve Bamboo/Carbon GTR AT – $1,199 (Best Affordable All Terrain electric skateboard)

Best Electric Skateboards for Every Price Point! (Budget to Premium) (19)

Evolve for $1200?

  • Price: $1,199
  • Battery: 504wh, 10s4p – average
  • Range: 19 miles/ 30km – average
  • Top speed: 27mph /44kmh – below average
  • Motors: 2 x 3000W (belt) great
  • ESC: Evolve’s Proprietary ESC
  • Deck profile:
    • Bamboo: Double-drop deck. Good concave, good flex.
    • Carbon: Double-drop deck. Flat-cave, stiff.

Read our full review of Evolve Bamboo GTR (written in 2019!)

OMG, an Evolve on my list…? OMG, an Evolve for $1,199?

So, Evolve has not got into my Best Electric Skateboard list for a while now. In case you missed it, Evolve – the most renowned brand in the electric skateboard world since the death of Boosted; was known for its beautiful board, great skateboard parts, and amazing post-sale service. On the flip side, it is also known for putting subpar electronics on its boards and charging a premium over what its boards are worth. So it’s not a surprise that we penny-counting nerds in ElectricSkateboardHQ weren’t fans of Evolve.

With that said, when Evolve slashes the price of Evolve Bamboo and Carbon GTR from $1600 to now $1199, it forces itself into this list as the best 2-in-1 you can get just over $1000. No, it still has an average specs for $1200, be it battery size or top speed.

For, in comparison to the Meepo Ninja (Bamboo Hurricane), which retailed at the same $1,199 price – the Meepo has a bigger battery (12s4p vs. 10s4p) and hence higher top speed and range.

However, Evolve compensated the average electronic with refined skate parts. The bamboo double-drop deck is flexible despite the board-length enclosures. (The carbon deck is stiff, though, but hey, carbon fiber deck for the same price!), And its double kingpin trucks have long been the industry standard for electric skateboards, giving a really nice carving fun.

At the end of the day, even considering the polarized opinion on Evolve, I still think the $1,199 Evolve GTR series is the safest and the best pick for a 2-in-1 board over $1000, and I think even Evolve haters will agree with me on this one.

2. Meepo Vader (Hurricane Carbon) – $1,599 (Crazy Torque, gear drive)

Best Electric Skateboards for Every Price Point! (Budget to Premium) (20)
  • Price: $1599
  • Battery: 725.8wh, 12s4p – great for the price
  • Range: 31 miles/ 50km – top tier
  • Top speed: 32mph /52kmh – great
  • Motors : 2 x 3500W, 6374 gear drive – great
  • ESC: LingYi (LY-FOC 55B) with push to start
  • Deck profile: Carbon Fiber double-drop deck, stiff, good concave.

Read our full review of Meepo Vader (Hurricane Carbon)

Meepo’s always been a big deal for two reasons:

  1. They offer tons of value, often beating competitors on price, and
  2. They make boards that are seriously powerful.

The Meepo Hurricane nailed both these aspects, which is why it wasn’t a shocker when it became one of the most popular electric skateboards between 2021-2022.

Fast forward to 2023, and Meepo’s gone all out expanding their flagship series. They rolled out the $1,299 Meepo Ninja (Hurricane Bamboo), the $1,599 Meepo Vader (Hurricane Carbon), and the $1,999 Meepo Vader AWD. Plus, if you’re feeling creative, you can even build your own beast with the Meepo Hurricane Ultra X.

Now, let’s talk about the Meepo Vader (Hurricane Carbon).

This board really sticks to what we call the “Evolve-formula” – think a double drop carbon fiber deck for a low and smooth ride, plus double kingpin trucks for slick moves and tight turns. But let’s be honest, this stuff’s pretty standard nowadays. Even the big battery (12s4p, 725.8wh) isn’t special at $1,599.

But here’s where the Meepo Vader really shines – it’s a torque monster. You might guess that from its ‘low’ 32mph (52 kmh) top speed. The Vader uses a gear-drive with a big gear reduction (Gear Ratio = 1:4.4) to ramp up the torque and dial back on top speed. This makes the Meepo Vader a blast to ride – it rockets off instantly from the push of the throttle.

Value-wise, the Meepo Vader still is a great deal for $1,599 if you price in the gear-drive system and those premium, grippy 165s cyclone wheels.

All in all, for us, the Meepo Vader has become the gold standard for boards under $2000. It’s a fun, torque-heavy ride with great specs. After all, why spend over $1,000 if you’re not getting something powerful, right?

3. OMW Calvary – $1,599 (Flexible Carbon Fiber Deck)

Best Electric Skateboards for Every Price Point! (Budget to Premium) (21)
  • Price: $1,599
  • Battery: 864wh, 12s4p – great for the price
  • Range: 34 miles/ 55km – top tier
  • Top speed: 37mph /60kmh – top tier
  • Motors : 2 x 3500Wgreat
  • ESC: 12s Hobbywing ESC
  • Deck profile: Carbon Fiber and Fiberglass Composite. Good Concave, mild flex. (3 flexibility options)

Read our full review of OMW Calvary

I’m a sucker for flexible deck, so I’ve no choice but to let the world know about OMW Calvary.

This is a new brand that just launched at November 2023, and adds the special flexible carbon fiber deck to the otherwise familiar “Evolve-formula”. Again, Double-drop deck (this time flexible) + Double Kingpin Trucks + 2-in-1 (convertible between AT and street wheels).

I see OMW Calvary as the Yin to Meepo Vader’s Yang. While Meepo Vader is super torquey and thrilling, OMW Calvary is relaxing and comfortable. The DKP trucks on Calvary is more stable than turney, that combine with a wide deck makes the board super stable and easy to ride at its crazy 37mph (60kmh) top speed.

The flexible deck + big 7 inch wheels + super smooth Hobbywing ESC means you get the smoothest possible ride on an carbon fiber electric AT board, period. It is the kind of ride that felt so safe that you can turn your brain off. The flex on the deck plus big wheels means vibration from going over sticks and road crack are barely felt.

And, being the new kid on the block, OMWEV packed a lot of value for the price. In short, if you like carbon fiber deck but hate road vibration, this is the board to get.

4. Exway Atlas Carbon Pro 4WD – $1,749 – $2,499 (Most refined AT boards)

Best Electric Skateboards for Every Price Point! (Budget to Premium) (22)

Most refined AT boards with lots of features

  • Price:
    • Belt 2WD: $1,749
    • Gear 2WD: $2,049
    • Belt 4WD: $2,099
    • Gear 4WD: $2,499
  • Battery: 701wh, 12s4p
  • Range:
    • 2WD: 24 miles/ 38km
    • 4WD: 21miles/ 34km
  • Top speed: 33mph /53kmh – top tier
  • ESC: Hobbywing ESC with smart turn-on
  • Deck profile: Carbon Fiber double-drop deck

We’ve never formally reviewed the Exway Atlas Pro, but we had enough mileage on it to know that it belongs on this list. The riding experience on the Atlas Pro is as good as it gets: Nice carbon fiber deck with comfortable concave, universally loved responsive DKP Trist trucks, super smooth 12 Hobbywing ESC, these are all proven ingredients for a very well-rounded ride.

The 4WD version addressed the often-criticized weakness of the original Exway Atlas Carbon – a relatively weak torque. The four-wheel drive version is plenty strong and gives the board good traction, making it a capable board for serious off-road rides.

Exway Atlas Pro also has the most bells and whistles of any electric skateboard, period. This includes:

  • Auxpack: An external battery pack that can be mounted on top of the deck.
  • Modular drive train (to switch between 2WD,4WD or gear)
  • Tire Mudguards
  • Very useful app – Exskate

Basically, the Exway Atlas Pro is a little bit pricier & a little worse in specs than the competitor, but have a lot more polish built and a ton more features. It is also as good of a ride as it gets.

5. Acedeck Nyx Z3– $1,599 – $2,899 (Best Mountainboard)

Best Electric Skateboards for Every Price Point! (Budget to Premium) (23)

Powerful 4WD and the most polished ride.

  • Price:
    • $1,599 (653wh) up to $2,899wh (1554wh)
  • Battery: 14s3p (653wh) to 14s6p (1554wh)
  • Range: 24 miles/ 40km to 56 miles / 90km
  • Top speed: 37mph /60kmh
  • ESC: Hobbywing ESC with smart turn on
  • Deck profile: Mountainboard deck, carbon fiber composite.

Acedeck is a new brand that names each of its skateboards after Greek gods. We reviewed the Acedeck Ares X1, which is quite impressive. However, the board that truly deserves your attention is the Nyx Z3. It’s this model that helps the brand gain significant traction, and rightly so.

The Acedeck Nyx Z3, is the new and improved version of the Nyx Z1, which was popular for being a rare Mountainboard. The Nyx uses a flexible mountainboard deck that effectively absorbs road vibrations. This design, which positions the battery box atop the deck, ensures maximum ground clearance. It’s a popular choice among off-roaders and hardcore eskaters.

Traditionally, setups like this cost upwards of $2000, making the Nyx a relative bargain (at least for the street version). So for those who want a Mountainboard for hardcore off road riding, we definitely recommend the Nyx Z3.

It’s also likely that the collapse of two dominant brands in this category, Kaly.nyc and LaCroix, in 2023, contributed to leaving the market wide open for newcomers like Acedeck in the same year. However, this is not to take away from the fact that the Acedeck Nyx Z3 is amazing in its own right!

Check out Acedeck Nyx Z3 product page (click).

4. Propel Endeavor2 Pro – $2,599 (Best true All-Terrain board)

Best Electric Skateboards for Every Price Point! (Budget to Premium) (24)

Powerful yet comfortable suspension board at a ground breaking price.

  • Price: $2,599
  • Battery: 1110wh, 12s5p
  • Range: 44 miles/ 71km
  • Top speed: 34mph /55kmh
  • Motors: 2 x 3000W (belt)
  • ESC: Customized FOC – Based on LingYi ESC
  • Deck profile: Carbon Fiber deck. Suspension trucks!

Off-road suspension boards were once ungodly expensive, but not anymore. You can get the Propel Endeavor2 S for $1,499, and that would be a capable enough board for an uphill hiking trail run, but the Propel Endeavor2 Pro $2,599 will give you the best experience.

Propel Endeavor2 Pro has the power to handle hardcore off-roading, but the main feature of the Endeavors series is most definitely the suspension system on its trucks. This suspension system can handle super rough terrain but also gives a comfortable ‘cushioned floating’ feeling when riding on regular roads. It felt really different than regular trucks, in a good way. We love it.

While off-road suspension boards (for example, the Propel X4s) are not usually practical for regular street rides, as they are very heavy, not really agile, and not fun for carving, the Endeavor series is actually responsive enough to be practical for street riding. (It certainly is an overkill for street riding, but not impractical.)

Amongst different versions of Endeavors, the Endeavors2 Pro went with the Flipsky VESC, which we prefer, as it provides absolute smoothness in speed control.

In short, if you are interested in off-road electric skateboarding, ‘mountain eskating’ or just want an electric skateboard that is completely immune to potholes, Propel Endeavor2 series is a versatile option that can do both.

Check out Propel Endeavor2 Pro (click).
